Freedom Writers (Example of Good Teaching)
This scene from the movie, "Freedom Writers" has been one of my favourite scenes growing up as a kid. It was a teaching tactic that I would want to follow when I become a teacher. In this scene, Erin Gruwell used a line game to connect with her students. She also used this game to ask her students to write journals about anything they want. This gives a chance for her to teach her students English as well as, connect to her students. She would later publish some of the students' entries (with their permission) to create change to the world. This assignment changed the lives of her students. I would want to use this teaching tactic to teach students concepts that would relate to their everyday lives.
Whiplash (Example of Bad Teaching)
This scene from the movie "Whiplash", spoke to me because I dreamt of becoming a music teacher however, I knew I wouldn't want to have the same teaching methods as Fletcher (the teacher in the movie). His teaching styles were abusive which, would not help the students. Fletcher's teaching styles would include throwing items at the students' heads and, recalling a dark time in their students' past. In this movie, it was claimed that one of his former students committed suicide because of Fletcher's teaching. The students would feel more fearful than inspired. I look at this movie as a teaching tactic that I would not follow.
