Assignment #23: Singing a rhythm exercise in solfege

When I was singing this exercise, I was frustrated with where the chords were. To me, it didn't sound right so, I had to change the placement of the chords. After I changed the chords, the exercise sounded more cohesive and I then focused more on phrasing my solfege.

Assignment #25: Singing Augmented Sixth Chords in Solfege

When I was singing the augmented sixth chords, I found singing the chords as an arpeggio to be helping me with my ear training. During this assignment, I was focusing on singing my semitones in tune because I tend to go out of tune when I sang the semitone notes such as la-si-la. After a few tries, I finally sang in tune and I then continued to sing musically.

Assignment #27: Singing Siyahamba in solfege and in words

I really enjoyed singing this song. I found out that I can sing more musically with words than in solfege. With solfege, I sound too manufactured so for my next assignment, I need to think about singing musically as I would sing with words.

Assignment 22: Singing and playing rhythmic excerpts

I found this assignment to be simple and straightforward so, I decided to play the first excerpt with my pens. When I was singing the second excerpt, I was having trouble singing the eighth-note triplet and the sixteenth-not triplets. However, after a few tries, I managed to sing the two distinct rhyhtms

Assignment #24: Singing Menuet in solfege

This assignment was difficult to complete because I had a difficult time figuring out where I should move my do. I first, moved the do too late so, I had to redo this recording. On my second try, I moved the do right before the modulation occurs. After I figured out the moveable do, I continued to sing with phrasing and dynamics.

Assignment #26: Singing Bartok in Solfege

Singing the Bartok piece was really difficult. While singing the piece, I found out that the solfege was difficult to remember because of the moveable do. With a lot of practices, I managed to sing all of the solfège’s in tune. I then continued to sing with the correct phrasing and singing musically.

Assignment #28: Singing Move Together by James Bay in solfege

I originally chose to sing, Let It Go by James Bay. However, I realized that it was very difficult to sing this song in solfege. I decided to  sing Move Together by James Bay instead. My challenge with this song was singing in a low key. The original key is in Bb Major and even when I transposed the key, I still found it difficult to sing the song. Therefore, I sang in the original key and continued practicing the song until I fully felt comfortable in the key.

Assignment #29: Clapping Music

This assignment was the most difficult assignmnet to attempt this semester. My rhythm was getting messed up from the changing second part. I tried many methods such as, listening to the first part's loop as well as, listening to just the metronome. To me, it seemed like every attempt got worse and worse. I finally found a method to fix my rhythm. I decided to re-record the first clapping part and accent my downbeats. I realized that I couldn't hear the downbeats properly on my metronome. Accenting the downbeats made this piece much easier to perform.
